HANSVILLE GREENWAY UPDATE

“STORY OF THE HANSVILLE GREENWAY”
How a Village Preserved an Ecosystem

A book by Sid and Craig Knutson

Greenway volunteers have often been asked, “when did the Greenway begin, and who made it happen?”  It began as a vision 26 years ago by three Hansville residents, Sid Knutson, Mary Ellen McCaffree, and Ken Shawcroft.  They worked together with a group of other community volunteers, and the Hansville Greenway became a reality.

Sid and Craig Knutson, father and son, have produced a book that begins with the creation of a vision in 1991.  It tells the story of how a group of volunteers was able to inspire a community to create a conservation masterpiece that has become a model for subsequent efforts by other Kitsap County organizations.  The volunteers took advantage of a timely combination of circumstances and endeavors of many Hansville residents to make the Hansville Greenway and Wildlife Preserve an example of environmental preservation.

This book chronicles how individuals can and do make a difference.  It is a classic example of a community working together to achieve a common goal.  Sid and Craig have done a remarkable job documenting the history with well written text along with an abundance of pictures and articles detailing the Greenway’s progression over the years.  Many of your friends and neighbors are included in this book.

If you enjoy the Greenway’s network of nearly ten miles of trails, you will certainly enjoy and appreciate the efforts of Sid and Craig Knutson to chronicle all of this historical information.  At Sid’s request, proceeds from the sale of this book will be donated to the Hansville Greenway Association, specifically to fund the 4th grade environmental field trip education program. The book is available for sale at the Hansville Store .
