As of September 15th
Our trails are mostly clear, but as the fall rain starts the brush gets wet and starts to bend over the trail and then you get wet! Guess that’s the price we pay for having all that green out there.
We have found some of the leaning trees that were well above the trail starting to lean even more. If you notice some of these that are close enough to the ground to present obstacles to hiking, let us know. We’ll get out there and take care of them. We may even ask you to help. When you do, you’ll find that this type of work is quite enjoyable and then we sign you up–and you’ll be part of our organization.
Since it’s getting sort of wet out there, we’ll be taking our fire danger signs down. We just have to get out there and do it.
Can’t remember where the trail number posts are located? Check out our map in the General Information menu item. Remember, you can always load the Maprika app on your smart phone and import the Hansville Greenway map. The app works with Android or iOS. With GPS enabled, you should be able to find your way with no problem.
Want to report stuff? Want to volunteer to help? Just e-mail us at firstname.lastname@example.org or you can contact Art at 360-638-0738 to make your report. You can also comment on our Facebook page.
We are short of able-bodied people to help with maintenance, so if you’ve ever wanted to volunteer your time for a really good cause, we’d love to have you. Any time you can contribute is really appreciated! And you’ll get bragging rights for working with us! There is no “required” amount of time for volunteers to work. We are just happy to get any help we can get.
We are leading organized hikes through the Greenway. The hike held on June 1st had a couple of takers and a good time was had by all. We must be getting more popular, as the July 13th hike had 5 hikers. Who should go on one of our hikes? Anyone who feels uncomfortable hiking in the woods alone. Anyone who wants to learn more about the great out-of-doors right in our own community. Or anyone who wants a leisurely walk in the woods.
The next planned Greenway guided hikes will be offered on the following dates:
August 17, and September 14th. They will start at Buck Lake parking lot (the southwest corner) at 9:00 and last two to three hours.
The hikes are not difficult, but hikers should dress for the weather and wear good walking shoes. Take along any snacks you might want as well as drinking water. No water fountains in the woods!
If you plan on hiking with us, please let us know by emailing email@example.com. While this is not required, it lets us know how many people to expect.
You’ve probably noticed that we still have a little work to do on the Alder Wetlands trail where it leaves Twin Spits Rd. We are working on it. Want to help? Give us a call.
